Research assistant positions are available for M.S. students who are interested in contributing to research studies on multi-media fate modeling. (Distinguished undergraduate students will also be considered for the position.)
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The main tasks and responsibilities of the research assistant will be:
- to prepare data sets for global- and regional-scale multi-media fate and transport models
- to conduct model simulations
- to analyze simulation results
- to test the model programs
- to develop new models
- to prepare scientific reports of the research activities
- to publish the research results as high-quality peer-reviewed articles
- to actively contribute to the research environment in the department.
QUALITIES:
The research assistant candidate should have:
- a distinguished academical record (undergraduate GPA > 2.5)
- good English language skills (very good reading and writing skills)
- success in engineering courses such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Thermodynamics, Computer Programming, Numerical Analysis, etc.
- success in environmental science and engineering courses such as Environmental Chemistry, Organic Pollutants, Hydrology, Environmental Modeling, etc.
- proficiency in at least one programming language (preferably Python)
- computing and data analysis skills using Matlab and spreadsheet software
- curiosity, strong desire to learn, and high motivation (personal characteristics will be considered).
