TUBITAK STAR Research Internship Program for Undergraduate Students (November 2020)
The new support program by TUBITAK called STAR is aimed at motivating undergraduate students to participate in ongoing TUBITAK funded projects, so that successful students can gain scientific research experience early in their careers and get motivated to participate in further research activities.
The project titled “Development of a Multi-Media Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Fate Model for İzmit Bay“, which is being conducted in our research group, is one of the projects that seeks internship applications through the STAR program.

NEW RESEARCH PROJECT funded by TUBITAK (December 2018)
The research project titled “Development of a Multi-Media Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Fate Model for İzmit Bay” has been accepted to be funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) through the 1001 Research Support Program.
The main objective of the project is the development of a multi-media model to be used in gaining a quantitative understanding of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) pollution in İzmit Bay (the Gulf of İzmit). The PAH class of organic pollutants, which have been observed to be present in significant amounts in environmental media (air, water, sediment, mussles, fish) in İzmit Bay as a result of current and past human activities, pose a potential threat to human and environmental health.
The project includes a comprehensive monitoring program to determine the current situation of PAH pollution in İzmit Bay by conducting sampling and measurement studies in air, sea water and sediment environments. The multi-media fate model, which will be a systematical synthesis of the current theoretical and experimental knowledge and the knowledge obtained through regional field studies, can be used as a tool that provides scientific support in environmental management studies in İzmit Bay, a region struggling with complex environmental problems.
